KosherStars.com Tips
More people respond to profiles with photos. This is a very simple way to not only get more people to view your profile, but to respond to it as well!,

How is KosherStars.com different then other similar dating sites?
KosherStars.com is completely free. It was built for the primary purpose of helping young Jewish singles make friends, meet others, and potentially find their a match.

Who is KosherStars.com meant for?
KosherStars.com is meant for Jews who are shomrei Torah and shomrei mitzvot. This can be defined as those that live their life according to Halachic Jewish guidelines and values, the minimum being observing the laws of Kashrut and Shabbat.

Are the profiles screened? What is the process?
Here is how the signup authorization process works.

  1. You register for the site.
  2. The site automatically sends you a confirmation email with a code and instructions to confirm your email address.
  3. The site also sends the staff an alert that a new user has registered.
  4. While you are confirming your address, a staff member (usually Ari) is glancing over your profile.
  5. Once you confirm your email address you are allowed into the site. You may search the profiles, but you cannot contact any of the members.
  6. Once your email has been confirmed, and after your profile has been reviewed, a staff member activates your account.
  7. At this point, you go and check out the site, roam around for a bit, decide you love it, send us some suggestions and then invite 5 friends! :)

Why should I invite my friends?
KosherStars.com is months, nay years, of work that I devoted to create something meaningful. My intention is to create a successful resource that will help others and myself. I have absolutely no budget for marketing or advertising. This site does not make a penny, yet costs a bit to run. The most expensive part is the time it takes to manage the site, respond to the emails, review the accounts, fix the images, and other clerical work. The management of the site, I pretty much have down to a science, yet I sill need help getting the word out about it. This is the major part that I really need help with, and it is something you can contribute to very easily.

So, the best help is to simply invite a few friends to the site. This helps get the word out about the site, which in turn encourages more people to sign up. I get a number of emails each week that there aren't enough profiles like X or like Y on the site. The simple answer is usually because you haven't invited anyone.

Please keep in mind, that the primary reason people join KosherStars.com is by word of mouth and invitation. When you invite people to the site, you basically encourage the site to grow with people like yourself. Your friends are usually in your age range, your hashkafah, and your location. Which in-turn increases your potential matches because their friends (who you may not know) will also be similar to you (again in age, location, hashkafah) and this will go on increasing the amount of people on the site that are suitable for you.

If you don't invite friends to the site it basically works against you. The site will continue to grow - again based on those that are inviting their friends. However, the people that are being invited are not your hashkafah, not your age, and not in your location. So it unfortunately makes things harder to find people like yourself - aside from waiting until they finally step aboard without your encouragement.

Lastly, it is only natural that if you intend to benefit from the site, you should contribute a little back to it. Sending invitations is a simple way to help, support, and strengthen this project. Inviting friends helps the other members of the site, and it also helps you. Everyone using this site and contacting others have contributed back to the site by inviting others. Surely you can do your little part and invite friends to help them just as they've done for you.

There aren't any members in my location/hashkafah/situation, why should I join?
Because you are discouraging the potential members that are suitable from joining by not posting a profile, in the same fashion that the suitable person for you discouraged you by not joining before you. Quite frequently non-members take a cursory glance at the site or the members and figure there is no one there for them, or not enough members and decide not to join. This undermines the project. What do you say to the first 5 members that joined the site? What about the first 10? 25? 100? 500? We now have thousands of postings on KosherStars.com. If you are looking for a match and you are observant you should join the site.

Why do you want to me to spam friends so you can collect email addresses?
I don't want you to spam people. I don't want, need, or have any use for your email addresses. I'm just a regular guy that is working on this personal project of mine and I need your help to make it a success. Please invite people you know that will benefit from this site. Thank you.

I got this email saying someone was interested in me and I should post a photo. What is this about?
Every profile that doesn't have a photo, has a link to anonymously request that the member post a photo. An email like the one you received is issued when anyone clicks on the link. We cannot tell you who clicked on it, because we don't track this, and it wouldn't be anonymous if we did.

I got an email saying someone was looking for me. Who was looking for me? Why would anyone send me this email, I'm married!?
The site allows members to link to others on the site to create a network of friends and help members see how they are related socially to other members on the site, and who their common friends are. A member can search for friends by email address. If the person is in the system then the member can link to their profile. If the person is not in the system, and email is issued saying that someone was searching for them. That is the email that you probably received.

Our system supports profiles for singles interested in dating as well as others that can facilitate this project. This site offers features that go beyond simple matchmaking and therefore married people are allowed to join to either facilitate matchmaking, to use the utilities, to network, make friends with others, or to serve as references and proxies for members interesting in dating.

Also be aware that people in general are curious and by nature they search to see if other people they know are on the site, or had member accounts.

What are cookies, and why doesn't it let me log in? It says something about my cookies.
The cookie is a term for a little bit of information that is saved on the your computer and constantly sent back to the website each time you go to a page. This helps the site coordinate and keep track what it was doing for you. You can think of a cookie more like a ticketing system or an order number.

The way it works is like this:
You go the the site and log in. When you log in correctly the site assigns you a ticket, say ticket #1234 to show every subsequent time you "speak" with the site - this is the cookie.

Now every time you go to a page you show your ticket and the site says, "oh I know you... you're Joe Shmoe who got ticket 1234 when they logged in" And the site can then let you do stuff on the site with your own account.

Now if your computer is not allowing cookies... then the site will never recognize you unless you log in each time to prove who you are because you aren't showing the cookie as your credentials. You may be able to log in and in that instance it will know who you are because you just logged in, but the VERY NEXT link or page you go to, you won't be sending back the ticket, and the site will therefore again not know who you are and then ask you again to log in.

So basically the cookie is sort of a badge that you get once you log in to the site. And the cookie then enables you to go through the site and identifies who you are.
